Tacoma Art Museum aims to integrate the visual arts into the lives of our community. Through focused educational programs, the museum creates opportunities for further understanding, enjoyment, and engagement with works of art. The museum’s education programs provide opportunities for viewing art and for creating, discussing, and connecting to art.
The museum offers a number of programs that provide visitors further opportunities to explore connections to the art on display. These include lectures and discussions by local and internationally known artists, art historians and other related specialists; dance, musical, and theatrical performances; film screenings; poetry and book readings; and related interdisciplinary programs. These varied programs aim to provide numerous personal points for reflection on the art and learning for participants.
Designed for specific age groups, the museum’s summer camp program introduces area youth to various art concepts and techniques reflected in current exhibitions on view. Working with area artists, the Education Department develops weeklong camp programs that include art making, exhibition tours, and field trips.
