Contemporary Folk Art: Treasures from the Smithsonian American Art Museum
April 7 – June 17, 2001
The national tour of Contemporary Folk Art: Treasures from the Smithsonian American Art Museum maked its only West Coast stop in Tacoma. The exhibition featured 70 paintings and sculptures made by self-taught artists during the past 40 years. Many of the diverse and imaginative objects in the exhibition clearly demonstrate the way contemporary folk artists can transform everyday objects into extraordinary works of art. Contemporary Folk Artwas one of eight exhibitions in Treasures to Go, from the Smithsonian American Art Museum, touring the nation through 2002. The Principal Financial Group ® was a proud partner in presenting these treasures to the American people.
