Indivisible: Stories of American Community

January 25 – May 3, 2003

Indivisible offered a collective vision of local life and action in America through the real-life experiences of twelve diverse communities and their citizens. The exhibition featured nearly two hundred original photographs and extensive excerpts from recorded interviews from twelve leading American photographers and ten nationally recognized interviewers. Audio guides allowed museum visitors to hear the voices of citizens on the front lines of grassroots democracy. The project was presented through the traveling museum exhibition, a free postcard exhibition that toured throughout Pierce County, and was a project of the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University in partnership with the Center for Creative Photography, The University of Arizona, and was funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts.
