Summary of Position

TAM seeks an energetic and approachable manager to oversee operations of the admissions desk, gallery security and supervise Museum Business Services (MBS) staff members. The Visitor Services & Safety Manager works closely with the other managers to coordinate daily operation of the entire public museum spaces. Department collaboration with Education, Marketing, Development, and Curatorial is also essential.

In addition to the qualifications detailed below, the ideal candidate possesses an enthusiastic and amiable demeanor, exceptional patience, and the ability to respond dynamically to unexpected changes in operations and programming, to maintain a positive attitude under stress, and to proactively problem-solve resolution of visitor issues.

Responsibilities

• Trains, supports and evaluates MBS staff members and works with HR to interview and hire new staff as needed.
• Oversees master MBS staffing schedule (goal month out), coordinating breaks and other outages, and filling in as needed.
• Maintains presentation of lobby and entire public spaces. Perform and delegate cleaning duties and upkeep of the museums’ public spaces.
• Works closely with security and other team members to assess safety and security concerns as they arise throughout the galleries and public spaces, responding or escalating issues in a timely manner.
• Maintains consistent training and support of ALTRU point of sales system specific to front line staff users.
• Collect and prepare museum admission data using point of sales software and use Excel to populate monthly and yearly attendance reports for Director of Finance distribution.
• Provides excellent customer service to ensure that all visitors have a positive museum experience.
• Heads safety committee, made up of staff members from several departments, which works with management staff to develop and document policies and procedures to ensure safety of employees and visitors. Coordinates staff safety trainings.
• Respond to security and safety issues as they arise, this may include responding to afterhours security events
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Customer service, retail experience with at least two years supervisory experience.
• Solid organization and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to team approach and ability to collaborate openly.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, and Publisher) and familiarity with computer systems.
• Excellent communication skills (written, oral, visual).
• Must be able to work evening and weekend hours when necessary.

Travel, Working Conditions, and Physical Environment

The essential physical requirements of this position include:

• Frequently reaches with hands and arms and uses hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, machinery, computers, and/or controls.
• Continuously exchanges information through listening and talking with staff, volunteers and individuals in the community.
• Some work may be occasionally performed outside where employee is subject to adverse weather conditions.

The gift, announced on Mrs. Benaroya’s 93^rd  birthday, includes a contribution for the construction of a new 7,390 square-foot gallery addition in which to present the collection.  The new wing has been designed by award-winning architect Tom Kundig of Seattle-based Olson Kundig and opened   in January 2019.
