TAM Teen Open Studio presents guest artist Nofo Porter this month, who will host a workshop on mural design and scale! We will be looking at ways to transfer your mural design from a handheld image (think hand-drawn on printer paper or an image saved on your phone) to a wall of any size. What methods do muralists use to scale up their work, allowing them to paint it accurately on the side of a building? Come for this workshop to find out and gain hands-on practice!
About the Artist
Nofo Porter (she/her) is a queer, Samoan, female visual artist and muralist. In 2012 she moved to Tacoma and quickly found her home within a group of young artists. At that time there were community art spaces, like Fabitat, that were free and welcoming to the public. Fabitat was especially invested in the creative future of Tacoma’s youth. Gratefully, Nofo used every paint marker, paint tube, and paint brush she couldn’t otherwise afford but for the generosity of that art center, and the tireless work of community organizers who poured into spaces like it. Now, Nofo paints primarily with acrylics and creates murals around town. Her work is often in some way portrait related, with color saturations and line weights heavily influenced by her love for anime, graffiti art, and her Samoan cultural heritage.
