AHAT Homecare and Tacoma Art Museum are partnering to present World AIDS Day – “Putting People First.” World AIDS Day will center around hope, remembrance, and resiliency within people living with HIV/AIDS in Pierce County.
What to expect
Join us for art activities, drag story time, and a panel discussion. The panel will include Julie Lewis, 40-year AIDS survivor and author of the book Still Positive. After years of silence about her disease, Lewis began using her story to make a difference. In 2014 she founded the 30/30 Project to improve access to healthcare, especially in communities impacted by HIV/AIDS or lacking maternal/prenatal care. The ten-year project, completed in 2024, resulted in 30 healthcare facilities, built for 18 organizations in 9 countries, including the US and Puerto Rico.
The event will also include a screening of Visual AIDS’ short film Day With(out) Art 2024: Red Reminds Me.
In observance of World AIDS Day, Tacoma Art Museum is honored to host the AIDS Memorial Quilt, a powerful symbol of love, remembrance, and resilience. Join us as we display this impactful tribute, commemorating the lives lost and raising awareness about the continued impact of AIDS on our communities.
