what if Show and Tell
TAM is proud to host monthly artist-led workshops inspired by the exhibition’s themes.
what if exhibition artists will each lead a discussion with participants, sharing the piece of literature or print media that resonates with their work on view. After the discussion, the artist will lead a workshop or making circle, where participants will create a work of art inspired by their work and the earlier discussion.
This series of programming will take place 1-2 times a month from July- September. Series schedule is below:
Friday, July 19, 4-6pm
Le’Ecia Farmer
Join us in the what if exhibition as artist Le’Ecia Farmer leads a discussion with participants, sharing a piece of literature that resonates with their work on view. After the discussion, Farmer will lead a workshop, where participants will create a work of art inspired by their work and the earlier discussion.

Kristina Batiste
Join us as Kristina Batiste leads a workshop exploring clay’s responsiveness to the emotional quality of music. Kristina will first lead a discussion with participants, sharing how Nina Simone’s You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To connects with her work. Participants will then paint and glaze clay salvers created by Batiste as their canvas to create a work that connects to a piece of music.

Chris Lee Hill
Join us as Chris Lee Hill leads a workshop centered around the art of curating music playlists as a form of identity and self-expression; highlighting the expansiveness of music as a modern form of literature, storytelling and expressing of emotion.
Participants will learn about his process of music curation as a DJ and how moods and/or liked aesthetics influence the creation of their playlists. The workshop will highlight the psychological aspects, and emotional landscapes of sound, and how these tie into the exhibition, what if. After the discussion, he will lead an exercise inviting participants to create their own playlists.

Join us in the what if exhibition as contemporary visual artist Cristina Martinez (@sew_trill) leads a discussion with participants followed by a linocut workshop inspired by one of her favorite pieces of literature.

Closing Talk
what if is coming to a close! Join us one last time in this immersive exhibition that explores the expansiveness of interiority through personal curiosity, as evidenced in Black artists’ visual narratives. We will host a closing talk of what if with the exhibiting artists Kristina Batiste, Cristina Martinez, Chris Lee Hill, Le’Ecia Farmer, and curator, Victoria Miles. The talk will be moderated by Dr. Jasmine Jamillah Mahmoud.
