Thank you for tuning in to The Current Corner this year!
For this final episode of 2024, Rebecca and Jack Benaroya curator Victoria Miles discusses Ikune Sawada’s Winter Scene.
I believe that this painting is a profound example of how something so seemingly simple can be so captivating–from the technique to the details, all of his intentional artistic choices. I really appreciate the ways Sawada depicts seasons and moments. There is something magical and beautiful about living life through seasons–it reminds us to slow down, be mindful and live in the moment. It makes me think of a work that was in the ‘what if’ exhibition by artist Kristina Batiste, titled ‘Five Moons.’
